Sports Injuries

Sports injuries include any injury occurring during physical activity. It’s no secret that regular physical activity is important for overall health and wellness. However, physical activity increases your risk of injury, whether you’re playing an organized sport or exercising for health.

Most sports injuries occur from accidents, inadequate training, or improper use of protective devices. Failing to properly stretch or warm-up before you start your workout also increases your risk of injury.

What are common sports injuries?

Sports injuries may affect any part of your body. The type of sport you play may place you at risk of certain types of injuries. For example, foot and ankle injuries are common in athletes who play football or hockey. Shoulder injuries are common in tennis players and gymnasts. No matter the injury or the cause, Pacific Sports & Spine team can provide the care you need.

How are sports injuries evaluated?

Pacific Sports & Spine specializes in sports medicine. When you come in for a sports injury evaluation, your provider conducts an in-depth clinical evaluation to develop the most effective treatment plan.

Your provider asks detailed questions about your injury during your evaluation, including how it happened, your initial symptoms, and current symptoms. They also talk to you about your usual exercise routine and the types of sports you play.

The sports medicine expert then reviews your medical history and conducts a physical exam. They may also request diagnostic imaging such as ultrsound or MRI to assess the severity of your injury.

How are sports injuries treated?

The team at Pacific Sports & Spine creates individualized treatment plans for sports injuries based on injury type and severity, as well as the kind of sport or activity you engage in.
